What is the school P&C?

The parents and citizens association (P&C) exists solely to support our children at Helensburgh Public School and has been instrumental in completing multiple projects that have increased the learning, development and enjoyment of the students at the school.

"P&C Federation is committed to a free public education system which is inclusive of all, irrespective of culture, gender, academic ability and socio-economic status. Parents as partners in the education process, have a right and a responsibility to play an active role in the education of their children." From the P&C Federation. For more information on the P&C Federation, visit the website.

P&C meetings

The P&C meets on the second Tuesday of every month. Meetings are held in the Teachers Staff Room at 7pm. All parents with suggestions, ideas, input and concerns are welcome.

About our P&C

We undertake and participate in a variety of activities including speaking up on behalf of the students externally and internally, fundraising to purchase resources, and planning and executing fun, community building activities like the Spooky Carnival. Parents are encouraged to join us by volunteering throughout the year at events such as the Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day stalls, Grandparent’s Day, sausage sizzles, discos and other school events.

We can’t all be at everything, but if every family at the school assisted with at least one event a year, it would be immensely valuable! The P&C is made up of ordinary parents, like yourselves, who believe in closely partnering with the school to ensure it has the information, input and funds necessary to provide the best education it can for our children.

If you or your business can help the school in any way, please contact the P&C via email at pandchps@gmail.com.

Voluntary contribution

The parent contribution is an annual voluntary payment of $50 per student or $80 for families. Unfortunately the budgets available through the government do not cover the additional resources and equipment needed to make a significant difference to our children’s learning. The parent contribution payment is essential to meeting the gap. On payment, you will be issued with a receipt which is tax deductible.

Projects undertaken by the P&C

Without the volunteer time of the parents and caregivers of the children at the school none of these would have been achieved. The projects include:

  • The infant’s playground equipment
  • The lower oval – fundraising for and installation of synthetic grass
  • Painted activity areas on the playground including handball courts
  • Jelly bean tables
  • School camera
  • Financial assistance with students representing the school, region, and state in sporting and academic events
  • Updating canteen equipment including fridges and laptop
  • Home reading resources
  • Playground games and sporting equipment
  • Library reading resources annually.

Financial assistance

The P&C strongly believes in the equity of access and support for all students at the school. If families are in need of financial support for school uniforms and other school items, the P&C has a special pool available to assist.

Application for use of this fund is via the school, to ensure student anonymity and confidentiality. The school simply endorses the allocation of funds, based on agreed criteria and the P&C makes the funds or items available, without any personal information needing to be supplied.

Student injury insurance policy

The Student Injury Policy available to all children at our school for only $5 as part of our 'Subject, Equipment and Resource Fee' schedule.

2017 will be the fifth year of this important P&C initiative and this insurance is taken out annually by our P&C on behalf of the entire student body to cover expenses associated with student injuries the occur at school while undertaking approved school activities, that the Department of Education doesn't cover.

The P&C voted to include this item as part of our student welfare policy to cover families and students for expenses like the cost of an ambulance, if one is called to the school for your child, or dental and other medical and non medicare expenses. We thank you for your continued support of this very worthwhile initiative.
