About our school

Helensburgh Public School is a quality school that with its community, inspires all students to be lifelong learners, through dynamic educational experiences.

Helensburgh lies between the main city centres of Sydney and Wollongong and is surrounded by National Park, bushland and beaches. Our township developed after coal was discovered in the area over 125 years ago. For more information about the history of Helensburgh and our school, please visit the Helensburgh Historical Society's website.

Helensburgh Public School was opened in 1887 and is the most northern school in the area of the NSW coast known as the Illawarra region. Our school is focused on student wellbeing and evidence-based teaching in literacy and numeracy.

We also have privately run on-site before and after school care, as well as vacation care, to make life easier for working parents. For more information, visit the Before and After School care webpage.
